💖Matric Dance 2024 - Oh, what a night! 📝Mrs S Grimbeek Hayward - TIC TAG Foundation The day started early at Mrs Hayward’s house, enjoying virgin mimosas and cupcakes while building up for the evening events. The young ladies (Gabrielle and Rachel) had their incredible makeup done by Zoë McGurk. Zoë is an extremely talented professional, and the girls were thrilled with their final looks and were kindly gifted “touch-up” products by this selfless artist. A big thank you for your kindness and time! These young ladies spent the afternoon transforming and taking photos with family and friends before their much-anticipated arrival at matric dance and walk down the red carpet to greet our acting headmistress Mrs Davidson. Sindisiwe, looked breath taking in a sequined navy dress; Gabrielle, in a velvet suit; Rachel, in an off the shoulder pink sequined dress; Aisha, in a sparkling champagne gold dress and Jess, in a glamorous black dress. This milestone was celebrated with a touching speech from the head girl, delicious dinner and of course, dancing the night away! - Generous Foundation donor 💗 John van Hoogstraten, leading aviation expert and industry leader. John is the MD at Straten CSL, specialist aviation consultants, which provide a wide range of support services to airports and developers based in the United Kingdom. As John explains, “I saw a gap in the aviation consultancy business where I could support non-aviation industries, predominantly developers with a focus on renewable energy. These industries do not understand ‘aviation speak’ and there is a need to interpret requirements and deliver results. Based in the UK, there is a large wind and solar development sector with a need for extensive aeronautical studies to determine the impact this development may have on aviation. Wind turbines are in planning for heights up to 250m above ground with offshore developments looking to go higher.” Straten CSL provides a full service to ensure the developer does understands the impact and mitigation. There is also a need to provide glint and glare studies where solar developments are near airports, we have conducted a number of studies around Heathrow, Gatwick Cambridge, and Brighton airports. The other area of expertise is in Airspace design, we support a number of airports designing an airspace to increase airport capacity whilst implementing efficient route infrastructure. We were involved in the airspace project for the FIFA World Cup in Qatar where we led the design and implementation of the airspace for the event. 👑We asked John on some of his ‘fondest KES memories’…
“Oh wow, I have the unique position (maybe not too unique) of being in the class of ‘84 and ‘85. I enjoyed KES so much in my formative years that I decided to stay a little longer. There are too many good memories, but the standout was the camaraderie, especially in boarding school. Buxton was my home for many years and am still in contact with most of my friends. A stand-out moment was on the basketball court, playing in the 1st team we were never really supported like the rugby team, that is of course until the American School played, I am not entirely sure if it was my basketball skills that was admired or the cheerleaders at halftime that brought in the crowds but quite a sublime moment having the court surrounded and the stands full during a home game.” 💗John has recently become a part of our Foundation tribe and generously donates and contributes to the causes and work of the Foundation. We asked him, ‘What is it that resonates with you, to be a part of the TAG Foundation tribe?’ John replied, “I connected with Jonny on LinkedIn, along with many other Old Boys (and the school) and saw what he was doing with TAG Foundation. It is certainly an admirable thing he got going and then saw his son James raise money as well. At the same time, my daughter and son-in-law joined the school as a teacher and during a visit I became very much aware of what the school means now. It has evolved and I firmly believe the future of KES is in strong hands with the ability to influence our future South African leaders. With my business growing and becoming more secure I thought of no better way than contribute to the success that TAG has created.” 🚀Living by the daily mantra of, ‘Nothing is rocket science, other than rocket science itself.
