Reanco Louw is the twin brother of Emile Louw – both new members of the TAG team, although they don’t look a lot alike and they will be adding value to the school in different ways this year.
The twins were at Laerskool Krugersdorp Noord and both played club rugby at the Western Cubs where Mr van Vuren spotted them and invited them to apply for King Edward VII School.
“I had been here before, at last year’s Easter Rugby Festival, and I was amazed at what I saw,” he said. “But I never dreamed then that I would actually be here one day.”
Reanco is not quite as keen on multiple activities as his brother is, but he has clearly shown leadership potential and has just been named the captain of the under-14D rugby team. “Rugby is my first love, but I am enjoying cricket. I have got a taste of the school spirit and brotherhood that exists here and it’s great to be part of it.”
He is in School house, and is loving it. “Being in a hostel is new for me, but I found that it’s a great place to make friends quickly and to create bonds with the other boys,” he said. “Being surrounded by other guys who are experiencing our first year at high school together has made it much easier.”
He is an eighth man and his immediate aim is to make the under-14A team. “Pre-season training will begin soon and I am going to give it a full go.”
When he went to the school shop to get his uniform when he first arrived he noticed the Red Rugby jerseys there. “I immediately thought I want one of those. That’s my dream, to be a standout player, to make the A team, the under-16 provincial team and the Reds one day.”
We wouldn’t bet against him.
